This study combines data from a social survey and an air photo time se
ries to gain both 2 temporal and spatial understanding of Dominican hi
ll land use evolution. Research results indicate that disparities in p
resent land use and productivity between two hill land study sites ste
m from their different stages of development along a common and use co
ntinuum. The authors emphasize the importance of understanding land us
e history when identifying key constraints to long-term sustainability
of hill land farming systems.
