Abstract
A novel model of electric dipole radiation for second harmonic generat ion is developed. Based on this model, a useful formula is derived, wh ich can predict the conversion efficiency, the dependence of the SH po wer on the depth of the guide, and the radiation pattern of the Cheren kov configuration of SHG satisfactorily. The results of numerical calc ulations are consistent with those given by directly solving the wave equations. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
