The Rei reactor LVR-15 operating at 10 MW can serve as a further neutr
on source in Central Europe for some basic and applied research. Durin
g the year 1997 a pattern of cycles of three weeks, each followed by o
ne week for maintenance and instrumentation development, has been esta
blished. Though this reactor is operating by the Nuclear Research Inst
itute, pie. (NRI, pie.) on a commercial basis the noncommercial experi
ments in nuclear and solid-state physics, materials research and neutr
on activation analysis performed within the established Center for Fun
damental and Applied Neutron Research (CFANR) are free. (C) 1998 Elsev
