We have developed a neutron imaging plate (NIP) as a new neutron detec
tor and already reported the fundamental features of the NIP. The opti
mization of the NIP was carried out by changing a molar ratio of conve
rter materials to PSL (Photostimulated luminescence) materials and thi
ckness of the NIP. Some problems such as ir-ray sensitivity and irradi
ation effect for the practical use of the NIP were discussed. Several
examples of application of the NIP were introduced. (C) 1998 Elsevier
