We have performed a neutron diffraction study of the magnetic ordering
in Tb3Sb4Au3, a compound which is isostructural with the Kondo insula
tor Ce3Bi4Pt3. A powder sample was studied using the C2 DUALSPEC diffr
actometer at Chalk River Laboratories between 5 and 20 K. The temperat
ure for the onset of antiferromagnetic order is 16 K, in agreement wit
h susceptibility measurements. Sharp incommensurate magnetic peaks, in
dicating long-range order, develop below the Neel transition. At lower
temperatures, broader commensurate peaks are observed at lower angles
indicating development of further, short-range order. (C) 1998 Elsevi
