Sge. Tevelthuis et al., FERRITE NUCLEATION AND GROWTH IN A MEDIUM-CARBON STEEL STUDIED BY NEUTRON DEPOLARIZATION, Physica. B, Condensed matter, 241, 1997, pp. 1234-1236
The neutron depolarization technique is used for a simultaneous observ
ation of the grain size and the volume fraction of ferrite and pearlit
e forming from austenite in a medium-carbon steel at different tempera
tures. The effect of the transformation temperature is mainly visible
in the particle density, a property that is governed by the nucleation
behaviour. Pearlite formation leads to very distinct effects in neutr
on depolarization, the interpretation of which, however, is not yet fu
lly developed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
