It was thought that an equivalent atmospheric sounding channel can be
obtained by a lot of simulated computation, of which the peak height w
eighting function is higher than that of the first channel of HIRS/2 i
nstrument onboard the NOAA serial meteorological satellites of USA; By
comparing the retrievals obtained from the equivalent channel with or
iginal retrievals, the result shows that there is an improvement on th
e temperature retrievals by adding the equivalent channels, particular
ly on stratosphere (50-2hPa) profiles with the average improvement of
0.27K.
