Abstract
The bis(pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)thorium(IV) complex Cp2ThI2 (Cp*= eta(5)-C5Me5) was readily synthesized from the dibromo derivative Cp2 ThBr2 using a slight excess of trimethylsilyl iodide (<Me3SiI). The th orium complex Cp2ThI2 exhibits a 'bent metallocene' structure, as det ermined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (monoclinic, space group P -1/n; a = 8.572(2), b = 16.718(3), c = 15.881(2) Angstrom;beta = 98.16 (2)degrees, V = 2752.8(8) Angstrom(3); Z = 4).
