Kc. Zhang et H. Zhang, STRUCTURE-PROPERTY RELATIONSHIP OF POTASSIUM TITANYL (KTP) ISOMORPHOUS SUBSTITUTED CRYSTAL, Chinese Science Bulletin, 43(7), 1998, pp. 529-536
KTiOPO4(KTP) crystal is a nonlinear optical material with superior pro
perties. The KTP structure, point group mm2, is typified by the chemic
al form \K+\[Ti4+]O(P5+)O-4, where the curly brackets indicate nine or
eightfold coordination, the square brackets sixfold octahedral coordi
nation and the parentheses fourfold tetrahedral coordination. Differen
t isovalent and aliovalent substitutions in a given structure is quite
interesting. The KTP-type structure is extremely accommodating with r
espect to partial or complete isomorphous substitution which may be es
pecially significant in optical devices such as waveguides. A monograp
hic review of the structure-property relationship of KTP isomorphous s
ubstitution is briefly and precisely presented. II is shown that the p
roperties of KTP are very sensitive to its structure. Among the compos
ition, structure and properties of KTP-type crystal, the structure is
the core because it is a link between the composition and properties.
