Assemblages of spores, pollen, and organic-walled phytoplankton were s
tudied in the Middle Eocene-Oligocene sequence of Severnye Ergeni. The
dinocyst zonal assemblages were described, surd anomalies in their co
mposition related to the temperature regime and hydrology of the sea b
asin were outlined. Anoxic environments in the Bartonian and Chattian
time were recognized. The considerable role of the Adnatosphaeridium-G
laphyrocysta-Cyclonephelium group indirectly implies a warmer state an
d freshening of the sea basin of the Solenaya Balka time interval; a w
armer climate is also suggested by presence of various thermophilic ta
xa in pollen assemblages and by the greater amount of pollen of Fagace
ae and subtropical plants.
