The Be-7(2)- dimer has been observed for the first lime in an experime
nt aiming to perform C-14 measurements by Accelerator Mass Spectrometr
y (AMS) using an ion source previously utilized for the production of
a radioactive Be-7 beam. It was found that detection of the undissocia
ted dimer in the 3(+) charge state simulates C-14, contributing signif
icantly to the background in isotopic ratios measurements. (C) 1998 Pu
