Abstract
Heyes's propsoed study for testing whether chimpanzees have a theory o f mind is (1) too strong because it requires that the animals apply me ntal concepts to the interpretation of both their own experiences and the behaviours of others, and (2) too weak because dispositional rathe r than representational understanding of ''seeing'' is sufficient to p ass it.
