We describe the ROSAT analysis of the cD cluster Abell 2199. The spati
al distribution is found to be slightly elongated, with an axis ratio
of approximate to 0.8 and position angle of approximate to 45 degrees
anticlockwise from due North about the cluster centre. The surface bri
ghtness profile reveals a significant cooling flow of approximate to 2
50 M. yr(-1), although a lower mass deposition rate is deduced from th
e spectral data. The total gas and gravitational masses within a radiu
s of 1.8 Mpc are found to be approximate to 1 x 10(14) Mg and approxim
ate to 5 x 10(14) M. respectively. The implications of these findings
are discussed.
