Despite their strong urge for a economic co-operation, the central Asi
an states are finding it difficult putting co-operative economic union
into practice. Lack of diversification and lack of infrastructure, is
making them fall prey to the extractive economic policies of their bi
g neighbour, Russia. Moreover, there is no consensus among the CAS reg
arding the path of economic development they should adopt. Nevertheles
s, the fact remains that the CAS have come to realise the desirability
of mutual exchange and hope greater success in near future.
