Abstract
The analytical expression for the average S tenser in Eshelby's equiva lent inclusion method of internal stress determination in composite ma terials is derived for any transversely isotropic fiber orientation di stribution function specified by a generic histogram. The analytical a verage provides a basis for direct application of experimentally measu red fiber ODFs in the modelling of internal stresses and effective pro perties of thermomechanical fiber composites. Upper and lower bound es timates utilizing the analytical expression for the average S tensor a re presented and discussed. (C) 1998 Acta Metallurgica Inc.
