From a data set collected during the MEDCAPHOT-TRACE field campaign, w
e demonstrate that ozone fluxes can be determined with a shot-per-shot
DIAL instrument operated in the UV spectral region. This is done by t
he simultaneous reconstruction of ozone concentrations and of wind spe
eds using the same sample of lidar returns. A correlation scheme is us
ed for the wind velocity retrieval, in which the transport of the spat
ial inhomogeneities of the aerosol backscattering coefficient along th
e optical path of the system is analyzed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Lt
