A rotational model is developed from a new version of the two-paramete
r quantum algebra U-qp(u(2))). This model is applied to the descriptio
n of some recent experimental data for the rotating superdeformed nucl
ei Pb-192-194-196-198 and Hg-192-194. A comparison between the U-qp(u(
2)) model presented here and the Raychev-Roussev-smirnov model with U-
q(su) symmetry shows the relevance of the introduction of a second par
ameter of a `quantum algebra' type.
