Sulphur vulcanizates of epoxidised natural rubber (ENR) mixed with car
bon black in the presence of diamine showed low values of the loss tan
gent in the rubbery region, meaning low rolling resistance. The Payne
effect was found to be reduced by the addition of diamine, It was esti
mated that the decrease of tan delta was due to the enhancement of the
crosslinking density and the interaction between ENR and carbon black
by the introduction of the diamine, The influence of the types of dia
mines on the improvement of ENR compounds was also investigated. Prima
ry and alkyl amines were more effective for a reduction of the rolling
resistance of ENR compounds than tertiary and the aromatic amines.
