Abstract
We have analysed Rydberg energies within a perturbative approach. Taki
ng a suitable combination of states allows us to analyse cores with in
complete shells at the same level of accuracy as cores with complete s
hells. Using experimental values for the Rydberg energies of states wi
th l greater-than-or-equal-to 3, we have deduced accurate values of di
polar and quadrupolar polarizabilities, and in some cases octupolar po
larizabilities as well.
