Abstract
The frequency-tunable subthreshold OPO has become a unique source for probing and driving atoms with nonclassical light. Applications span f rom sub-shot-noise atomic measurements to proposals for the generation of quantum-correlated atomic ensembles. We briefly review the experim ents performed to date and then concentrate on the recent results in a tomic spin polarization experiments with nonclassical OPO light.
