Abstract
The spectrophotometric determination of vanadium(V) with N-p-bromophen yl thiobenzohydroxamic acid (BPTBHA) is described. A very stable water insoluble complex of vanadium(V) formed with BPTBHA has been adsorbed on micro crystalline naphthalene from the aqueous solution. The napht halene mixture is dissolved in DMF and vanadium(V) has been estimated by absorbance, measurements at 405 nn. Its absorption obeys Beer's law over the range of 7-150 mu g of vanadium(V) in 10 mL of DMF. The mola r absorptivity is found to be 2.6 x 10(4) L.mol(-1) cm(-1), the sensit ivity of vanadium(V) being 0.013 mu g cm(-2) for the absorbance of 0.0 01.
