A rapid spectrophotometric method for the determination of low levels
of palladium(II) with 2,2'-dipyridine-2,4-dinitrobenzoic acid-molecula
r complex (DDC) is proposed. A 1:1 water-soluble chelate has an absorp
tion maximum at 312 nth with epsilon = (4.6 +/- 0.2) x 10(5) 1 x mol(-
1) x cm(-1) in the presence of fold-excess of EDTA as mass masking age
nt. Under the conditions used there is negligible interference of 17 c
ations (including silver, platinum and ruthenium) and seven anions inv
estigated. Beer's law is obeyed up to 10(-4) M x L-1 of palladium.
