Abstract
Monkeys trained to distinguish touch stimuli that 'flutter' with diffe rent frequencies can similarly distinguish electrical stimulation of t he somatosensory cortex according to its frequency; the implication is that the electrically-evoked patterns of cortical activity cause flut ter sensations similar to those induced by touch.
