T. Cserhati et E. Forgacs, RETENTION OF SOME MONOAMINE-OXIDASE INHIBITORY DRUGS ON A BETA-CYCLODEXTRIN POLYMER-COATED SILICA COLUMN, Journal of chromatography, 660(1-2), 1994, pp. 313-318
The retention of seventeen monoamine oxidase inhibitory drugs (mono- a
nd disubstituted derivatives of propargylamine) was determined on a be
ta-cyclodextrin polymer (beta-CDP)-coated silica column using methanol
-0.05 M K2HPO4 (6:4, v/v) as the eluent. The inclusion complex formati
on between the drugs and a water-soluble beta-cyclodextrin polymer was
studied by charge-transfer chromatography carried out on reversed-pha
se TLC layers. The capacity factors were correlated with the various p
hysicochemical parameters and with the inclusion complex-forming capac
ity of the monoamine oxidase inhibitory drugs. Calculations indicated
that the inclusion complex-forming capacity of the drugs does not infl
uence their retention on a beta-CDP column, that is, the water-soluble
and water-insoluble beta-CDPs show different retention characteristic
s. The specific hydrophilic adsorption surface of the solutes signific
antly influences the retention in HPLC. The results suggest that the s
electivity of the beta-CDP-coated silica support may be different from
that of the traditional alkyl-bonded reversed-phase columns.
