Hg. Li et al., EVALUATION AND MANAGEMENT OF ATRIAL-FIBRILLATION IN THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT, Emergency medicine clinics of North America, 16(2), 1998, pp. 389
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythm
ia.(14,23) It is also the most common form of cardiac arrhythmia physi
cians must manage in the emergency department (ED). The adverse conseq
uences of AF include loss of atrial contribution to the cardiac output
, rapid and irregular ventricular rate, and the risk of thromboembolis
m. It has been shown that AF is associated not only with increased mor
bidity but also increased mortality.(18,40).
