Abstract
Single-zircon data show that the Massima series, hitherto thought to b e of Early Proterozoic age, is in fact Archean. This brings into quest ion the generally accepted stratigraphic correlations and allows defin ition of the lithotectonic composition of the Lower Proterozoic Ogooue belt. Palaeogeographic and geotectonic implications are discussed.
