Jj. Bahain et al., CHOICE OF THE USEFUL SIGNAL IN ELECTRON-S PIN-RESONANCE (ESR) DATING OF QUATERNARY STALAGMITIC CALCITES, Comptes rendus de l'Academie des sciences. Serie 2, Mecanique, physique, chimie, sciences de l'univers, sciences de la terre, 318(3), 1994, pp. 375-379
The natural stability of the three signals usually used for ESR dating
of stalagmitic carbonates [h-3 (g = 2.000 7), broad line (g = 2.004 0
) and h-1 (g = 2.005 7)] has been studied in a thick Pleistocene stala
gmitic floor. For samples younger than 300,000 years, the three lines
can be used indifferently for dating. For older samples, only h-1 and
the broad line give true dates; the results obtained from h-3 line is
probably related to the short lifetime of this trap in natural conditi
ons.
