H. Kumakura et al., COMPARATIVE-STUDY ON 180 MEV CU11+ IRRADIATION EFFECT ON TEXTURED YBA2CU3OX AND BI2SR2CACU2OY, Physica. C, Superconductivity, 251(3-4), 1995, pp. 231-237
180 MeV Cu11+ irradiation was carried out on textured Y-123 tapes and
the effects of irradiation on the microstructure and superconducting p
roperties were investigated. The results were compared to those of Bi-
2212. The superconducting transition temperature T-c of Y-123 is much
less sensitive to irradiation than that of Bi-2212. The increase of J(
c) by the irradiation, J(c,) (after) (irrad.)-J(c,) (before) (irrad.),
of Y-123 is comparable to that of Bi-2212 at low-temperature region.
At high temperatures, on the other hand, defects introduced by the irr
adiation are much more effective as pinning centers in Y-123 than thos
e in Bi-2212. Flux creep was suppressed by the irradiation for both ox
ides. However, essential features of flux creep were not changed by th
e irradiation for both oxides. These differences in pinning behaviors
between Y-123 and Bi-2212 can be understood in terms of the difference
in two-dimensionality of the oxides.
