The accuracy of the transition probability scale for the 4s-4p transit
ions of astrophysical interest in P I is established on the basis of t
wo independent calculations performed with the Relativistic Hartree-Fo
ck (HFR) and SUPERSTRUCTURE (SST) codes. Both physical models take int
o account the most important configuration interaction (CI) and relati
vistic effects. The present oscillator strengths lead to a refined val
ue for the photospheric abundance of phosphorus: A(P) = 5.45 +/- 0.06
in the usual logarithmic scale. The standard meteoritic abundance is,
however, higher by about 32%.
