The new Pr2BaCuO5 oxide has been prepared using a specific synthesis m
ethod. X-ray diffraction data reveal that it crystallizes with tetrago
nal symmetry, space group P4/mbm and lattice parameters: a=6.7318(2) A
ngstrom and c=5.8338(3) Angstrom and Z=4. Magnetic susceptibility and
magnetization measurements reveal an antiferromagnetic ordering in whi
ch both praseodymium and copper sublattices are involved. At the order
ing temperature, T-N approximate to 20 K, a small ferromagnetic compon
ent appears probably as consequence of the canting of the antiferromag
