S. Pagey et Aj. Alkhalili, APPLICATION OF BYTE ERROR DETECTING CODES TO THE DESIGN OF SELF-CHECKING CIRCUITS, Microelectronics, 29(6), 1998, pp. 323-333
In this paper, we discuss the application of byte error detecting code
s to the design of self-checking circuits for the single stuck-at faul
t model. Wie discuss strongly fault-secure realization of a given Bool
ean function using byte error detecting codes. Even though parity is t
he most efficient separable code for the detection of single errors, w
e show that the use of a byte error detecting code can lead to lower c
ost of self-checking realization of a given function as compared to it
s self-checking realization using the parity code. We also present a m
ethod for the design of totally self-checking checkers for byte error
detecting codes. Experimental results obtained for various test circui
ts are also discussed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reser
