[PtN3(CH3)((PPr3)-Pr-i)(2)] has been prepared by reductive elimination
of ethane from [Pt(CH3)(3)N-3](4) in the presence of triisopropylphos
phine at 80 degrees C. The complex is characterized by IR and NMR spec
troscopy and by crystal structure determination, as well as by ab init
io calculations. [PtN3(CH3)((PPr3)-Pr-i)(2)], which is in trans-config
uration here, crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1), Z = 2,
and with the lattice dimensions a=806.9(1), b=1384.3(1), c = 1093.8(1
) pm, beta= 94.107(10)degrees.
