The electric quadrupole interaction frequencies eQV(zz)/h of Br-77 (I-
pi = 3/2(-); T-1/2 = 57 h) and Br-82 (I-pi = 5(-); T-1/2 = 35 h) in hc
p Co were measured with modulated adiabatic fast passage on oriented n
uclei. The electric quadrupole moment of Br-77 is deduced to be Q = +0
.530(22) b, which, on the condition of strong coupling, implies a nucl
ear deformation of beta(2) = +0.354(15). This manifests a drastic incr
ease of the nuclear deformation between Br-79 (beta(2) similar to +0.2
2) and Br-77.
