A simple, quick and sensitive spectrophotomettic method for pipemidic
acid, norfloxacin and ciprofloxacin lactate is described, based on a r
eaction with p-nitrophenol in water medium, apparently by a charge-tra
nsfer mechanism, to yield 1:1 complexes with analytically useful maxim
um absorption at 404 nm, 407nm and 403nm. Optimum conditions for deter
mination, linear calibration range and apparent molar absorptivities h
ave been reported. The methods are highly accurate and have been succe
ssfully applied to the determination of pipemidic acid, norfloxacin an
d ciprofloxacin lactate in tablets. The results are in good agreement
with the official methods.
