R. Engels et al., REALIZATION OF A SMALL-SIZE HIGH-RESOLUTION LINEAR NEUTRON SCINTILLATION DETECTOR, IEEE transactions on nuclear science, 45(3), 1998, pp. 502-504
The spectrum of position sensitive neutron scintillation detectors, wh
ich have been developed and designed in our institute during the last
decade, comprises several high resolution linear detectors. The design
of the small size high resolution detector is based on a modified Ang
er technology using a linear array of 24 HAMAMATSU type R1770 rectangu
lar photomultipliers and a 1 mm Li-6 glass scintillator. The sensitive
detector area is 200x20 mm(2) and the spatial resolution is 1.2 mm. T
he neutron sensitivity at 1 Angstrom is about 65% and the residual gam
ma sensitivity is less than 10(4) and the maximum count rate is about
100 kHz. The detector is linked to a highly flexible PC-based data acq
uisition system with 12 bit position and 16 bit time resolution. The s
tand alone detector and data acquisition system is aimed preferably at
pulsed sources performing high resolution angle-dispersive time-of-fl
ight experiments.
