T. Shoji et al., FABRICATION OF A NUCLEAR RADIATION DETECTOR USING THE PBI2 CRYSTAL AND ITS RESPONSE CHARACTERISTICS FOR GAMMA-RAYS, IEEE transactions on nuclear science, 45(3), 1998, pp. 581-584
We have been studying a gamma-ray detector which uses a lead iodide Pb
I2 crystal. The detector was fabricated from a PbI2 crystal grown by 1
0-pass zone travelling molten zone (TMZ) method. The mu tau product of
this crystal is estimated to be about 1 x 10(-6) cm(2)/V for electron
s and about 6 x 10(-7) cm(2)/V for holes. The resistivety of the PbI2
crystal is estimated to be about 10(12) Omega cm. FWHM energy resoluti
on of the detector for a photoelectric peak for the 59.5 keV gamma-ray
s is found to be about 5 keV.
