New heterotrimetallic alkoxide [{Cd(OPr1)(3)}Sr{Zr-2(OPr1)(9)}](2) (1)
is obtained quantitatively in an anion-exchange reaction involving we
ll-characterised iodide heterobimetallic alkoxide ICd{Zr-2(OPr1)(9)} a
nd the alkali metal reagent KSr(OPr1)(3). The formation of 1 is accomp
anied with an exchange of metals (Cd(II) and Sr(II)) between the const
ituting fragments ('Cd{Zr-2(OPr1)(9)}(+)' and 'Sr(OPr1)(3)(-)') and th
e chelating Zr-2(OPr1)(9)(-) anion, in 1, coordinates to Sr2+ in contr
ast to the precursor ICdZr2(OPr1)(9) where it is bound to Cd2+. The he
terotrimetallic nature of 1 is unambiguously established by multinucle
ar(H-1, C-13 and Cd-113) NMR spectral data and a single crystal X-ray
diffraction analysis.
