We describe a new type of detector for digital autoradiography which c
ombines high sensitivity, useful detecting area (93 x 93mm) and good s
patial resolution (< 100 mu m). This instrument is suitable, inter ali
a, for imaging beta-emitting whole body thin tissue slices. Measured d
etector sensitivity and linearity derived from images of a C-14 standa
rd are presented. We also describe results from (i) a C-14 labelled ra
t whole body slice showing selective radiopharmaceutical uptake in cle
arly identifiable organs and (ii) C-14-Tamoxifen doped semi-thin tissu
e sections of rat womb and liver.
