P. Uhlenberg et Bg. Hammill, FREQUENCY OF GRANDPARENT CONTACT WITH GRANDCHILD SETS - 6 FACTORS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE, The Gerontologist, 38(3), 1998, pp. 276-285
Using data from the second wave of the National Survey of Families and
Households, the authors examine the determinants of frequent and infr
equent visiting between grandparents and their grandchild sets. A gran
dchild set consists of all the children of a particular child of the g
randparent, provided that the grandchildren reside in their parent's h
ousehold. The 6 significant predictors of frequent or infrequent conta
ct are geographic distance quality of relationship between grandparent
and parent of the grandchild set, number of grandchild sets, gender o
f grandparent; lineage of the grandchild set, and marital status of th
e grandparent.
