Abstract
The present study aims at providing insights into the understanding of the formation of bubbles at a submerged orifice under constant flow c onditions, in both Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. A rigorous theo retical model was developed for describing the non-spherical bubble fo rmation as well as the detachment at the orifice. The results predicte d by this model compare satisfactorily with the experimental investiga tion. However a deviation was observed in elastic fluids with the incr ease of gas flow rates when the memory effects become important. (C) A cademie des Sciences/Elsevier, Paris.
