Abstract
Various models for predicting aircraft noise around airports are descr ibed. Improved acoustic models of aircraft are formed by summing model s for the noise sources peculiar to each of the aircraft types, The co ncept of noise radius'' has been formulated and implemented as a usefu l alternative to the conventional noise-power-distance relationship. T rajectory noise models have been used to analyse the influence of vari ous operational factors on noise levels, The main procedure for assess ment of aircraft noise around an airport is in accordance with the int ernational requirements but each component has been derived in a parti cular way. Results of noise predictions for certain types of aircraft are presented. Atmospheric conditions are predicted to have an importa nt influence. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
