Abstract
We present experimental demonstrations that isolated structures in cha otic flows call be analyzed - and even manipulated in a predictable wa y - using simple, numerically efficient, geometric tools. In addition, we show that these tools operate without the need for exact equations : Since this is typical in situations of practical interest, we conjec ture that the method may be useful in practical applications.
