Abstract
Spatial learning of transgenic mice is often assessed in the Morris wa termaze, where mice must use distant cues to locate a submerged platfo rm. Such learning is confounded by species-specific noncognitive swimm ing strategies. Factor analysis permits cognitive and noncognitive str ategies to be disentangled and their association with electrophysiolog ical phenomena to be investigated.
