Abstract
A large core-area (804 mu m(2)) erbium-doped fiber laser is demonstrat ed. The laser power showed oscillatory or spiky behavior at a stable f requency, which, we believe, results from relaxation oscillation, seed ed by noises in the high erbium concentration gain medium.
