Abstract
The propagation of nonlinear quasimonocromatic Alfven waves with small but finite amplitude into an ideal astrophysical plasma is studied. U sing the derivative expansion method in the third order MHD approximat ion, the perturbation components for the case in study are determined. It was also shown that, under certain conditions, the nonlinear Alfve n waves are responsible for the appearance of shock waves into an astr ophysical plasma.
