Abstract
The difference between the redox potentials of decamethylferrocene (Fe Cp2), decamethylcobalticinium (CoCp2*)(+) and iron-pentamethylcyclope ntadienyl-hexamethylbenzene (FeCpC6Me6)(+ )is shown not to depend on the solvent and anion of the supporting electrolyte whereas ferrocene, whose redox potential is solvent dependent, does not fit in this seri es. Suggestions are made concerning the possible use of the three perm ethylated complexes as reliable references for the determination of re dox potentials, and a redox scale versus decamethylferrocene is propos ed.
