Abstract
A theoretical study in the framework of a variational approach ij pres ented for the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam (FPU) chain interacting with an extra e lectron. Standing three-component soliton solutions which describe cou pled states of an acoustic polaron with longitudinal lattice vibration s are found. This result is confirmed by numerical simulations and ext ended qualitatively to a chain with a realistic inter-particle potenti al of a general form.
