1,4-DIAMINOBUTANES FROM FURANS - A NEW SYNTHETIC APPROACH TO SUBSTITUTED PUTRESCINES

A novel approach for the synthesis of (hydroxymethyl)- and (aminomethy l)-putrescines starting with furanmethanols and aminomethyl-furanmetha nols is reported. The furans were converted to their 2,5-dimethoxy-tet rahydrofuran derivatives and the latter were ring-opened in acid media . The resulting carbonyl derivatives were isolated as their dioximes a nd the latter were then reduced to the corresponding amino alcohols. ( C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
