Abstract
Far-infrared spectra have been measured for Cu-63 and Cu-65 isotope su bstituted theophylline (Tp)-metal ion complexes: Cu(Tp)(2)(NH3)(2) . 2 H(2)O, Cu(Tp)(2)(NH3)(2), Cu(Tp)(2) . 2H(2)O and Cu(Tp)(2). In additio n, spectrum of Cu(Tp)(2)(ND3)(2) . 2D(2)O has been recorded. Metal-the ophylline, metal-ammine and water librational and translational modes have been assigned based on observed isotope shifts and complex dehydr ation effects. The copper-ammine vibrations have been found at 453 and 224 cm(-1), whereas the bis(theophyllinato)copper(II) modes have been detected at 192 cm(-1) for Cu(Tp)(2)(NH3)(2) and presumably at about 170 cm(-1) for Cu(Tp)(2).
