F. Hayakawa et al., THE CORRELATION OF STRUCTURE AND ACTIVITY OF PHENOLIC-COMPOUNDS TO DNA CLEAVAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF CUPRIC ION, Nippon Nogei Kagakukaishi, 72(6), 1998, pp. 759-761
The effects of various phenolic compounds with cupric ion on DNA cleav
age under aerobic conditions was examined using fluorometric analysis.
Information on the relationship between their structure and DNA cleav
age was obtained. The activity of compounds containing an OH group at
the 3-position of the C-ring such as epigallocatechin and gallocatechi
n, was much stronger than that of the corresponding ester. It was also
found that the 2-hydroxy or 8-amino ethyl moiety at the para-position
of pyrogallol or catechol is essential for potent activity.
